Veritable green lung for the planet, sanctuary for biodiversity and rampart against rising sea-levels, Cameroon's mangrove is today threatened by illegal cutting and climate change. The women farmers working the fields suffer extreme climatic events on a daily basis. On dry land, in the south, thousands of hectares of forest have been sacrificed to the agro-industrial monoculture of rubber and palm oil plantations: an economic choice that may, at first sight, seem essential for the country's development but which generates greenhouse gasses and disturbs both fauna and flora.
Cécile Bibiane Ndjebet has dedicated her life to protecting the environment. A battle fought for over thirty years side-by-side with Cameroon's women farmers.
