Henri Manguin
Born in Paris in 1874, Henri Manguin was taught by the Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau at the École des Beaux-arts, where he met Matisse and other future protagonists of Fauvism. With "La Sieste", he participated in the 1905 Salon d'Automne, denigrated as a "Cage aux Fauves" (cage of wild beasts) by the movement's detractors.
