Unification, November 1942 - June 1943

British-American forces land in North Africa, the German army invades the southern zone. Early 1943, Libération-Sud, Combat and Franc-Tireur join forces, forming the Mouvements Unis de la Résistance, under Jean Moulin. Laval approves a system of forced labour: the Service du Travail Obligatoire. Those who refuse take to the maquis.

Liberations; June 1943 - autumn 1944

Summer 1943; despite setbacks and lack of means, armed resistance develops to unprecedented levels. The end of 1943, de Gaulle heads the republican institutions that join forces with the resistance movement inside France. Following the allied landings, Henri Rol-Tanguy triggers an insurrection in Paris, opening the way for General Leclerc.
