A 2019 Palme d'Or nominee, this intriguing story of an author who gave up her career to become a psychotherapist until she’s inspired by a new patient to write again, is a must-see for the outstanding performance by Virgine Efira (Elle) and the impressive cast of supporting roles like Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color), Gaspard Ulliel (A Very Long Engagement), and Laure Calamy (Call My Agent!).

Synopsis

Sibyl, a novelist who retrained as a psychotherapist ten years ago, is overwhelmed by a desire to write again. As she seeks inspiration for her book, Margot, a young actress in difficulty, pleads for an appointment. Her patient's words inspire her novel and immerse her in her own tumultuous past.

After two critically acclaimed movies (Age of Panic and Victoria), Justine Triet proves once more that she’s one of the next big things in French cinema. Is Sibyl a romance, a thriller or a witty comedy? A bit of all of that really. A film with that many layers needed a great cast to tell the story. And this is what happens here, starting with the incredible performance by Virgine Efira, who, with movie after movie, shows more charisma and range, and is on her way to becoming one of the greatest French actresses of her time. She’s accompanied on her journey by many more big names in France including Gaspard Ulliel, Audrey Tautou’s lovebird in A Very Long Engagement, Laure Calamy, the bubbly Noémie from Call my Agent!, as well as Adèle Exarchopoulos and Niels Schneider, the faces of French cinema’s new generation.
