Since the success of his musical drama with Ludivine Sagnier and Louis Garrel Les chansons d’amour (Love Songs, 2008), Christophe Honoré has had some kind of cult following in America. Plaire, aimer et courir vite, (Sorry Angel) will not disappoint the fans of the director who once again creates a powerful drama, partly autobiographical.

When Love Songs (Les chansons d’amour) was released in the US in 2008, Christophe Honoré had already had three films distributed in America, but none of them had gotten much traction. Love Songs was his breakthrough. This - part joyous part heartbreaking - musical was reminiscent of the work of Jacques Demy (Les parapluies de Cherbourg, Les demoiselles de Rochefort) and was an epitome of French cinema with its love triangles, slow burning theme and beautiful pictures of Paris. Plaire, aimer et courir vite is probably his other masterpiece. Although touching on the dark early days of the AIDS epidemic in France, the film is a heartfelt love story about nostalgia, desires and regrets.
