A body, clutching a crystal chess piece, is discovered in the citadel of Bitche, Lorraine. Nicolas Muller, himself born in Lorraine, heads the investigation assisted by a young trainee. The first clues lead to the local crystal factory, run by Muller's father and sister who still live in the region...
