The life of a French family in a far-flung province of Cameroon shortly before the country's independence. While Marc is often away, his wife Aimée fights boredom through gardening. Excluded from the adult world, their daughter France and Protée, the boy, become good friends. A crash landing by a plane shatters the deceptive harmony of this cosy little paradise.
