This year, for the first time in decades, only 18 clubs will take part in the French league instead of the usual 20. Auxerre, Angers, Troyes and Ajaccio were relegated in the second division of the French league. Sadly that means no games at the beloved Stade Abbé Deschamps this year. Meanwhile, Le Havre (HAC) and Metz will join Ligue 1 Uber Eats following their great 2022/2023 season.
Since there are now only 18 teams in the French soccer league, this means that there will be 306 games this season in FRANCE, plus two playoffs games at the end of the season to determine who will face a relegation to the second division. Let's not forget the opening game of the season - Le trophée des Champions - which will see Paris Saint Germain (PSG) facing Toulouse. So if you're wondering how many games are in the French soccer league, the total is 309 for the 2023/2024 season.

Uber Eats is partnering with the French soccer league and has joined its name to the league in France. This is nothing new. Before Uber Eats, the French league was called La Ligue 1 Uber Eats Orange, following the partnership with the France-based telecom company Orange.
While PSG are predicted to win once again, it's impossible to discount Marseille and RC Lens for next year. PSG have won the French league title nine times in the last eleven years. And although Lionel Messi left PSG this summer and signed with Inter Miami in the MLS, the Parisian team already spent over $150M on new players: Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez, Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar. It's hard to see who will beat PSG this year, as they're also rumored to buy the French forward Randal Kolo Muani.
However, they will face stiff competition from Olympique de Marseille (OM), RC Lens, and potentially Lille (LOSC) and Olympique Lyonnais (OL). These four teams have made important signings in the summer transfer window and will be looking to improve on last season's performances.
There are plenty of other teams to look out for next year. Strasbourg (RCSA), which now have a new owner, American Todd Boehly, will be ambitious this season. This is also true for Nantes (FCNA). After a disappointed season last year, the legendary French club has changed a lot of its staff and recruited plenty of new exciting players. Clermont and Lorient are underdogs you should not overlook with their very international roasters and beloved coach. Finally, let's not forget Montpellier (MHSC), the former club of Olivier Giroud. They have a young and talented squad lead by the experienced coach Michel Der Zakarian.
1. Ligue 1 Uber Eats is home to some of the most exciting young talents in world football, such as PSG's Mbappé and Lyon's Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola. Because French teams don't have the financial backing of English or Spanish teams, they rely heavily on young talents before selling them for millions to richer teams outside of France.
2. Competitive matches. Yes, Paris Saint-Germain has been wining a LOT recently. But last year, the race for the title was indecisive until the last month of competition with with several teams challenging for the title.
3. The clash of big rivals - PSG vs Marseille is one of the biggest rivalries in French football, and their matches are always intense and passionate. Another rivalry to watch, Stade Rennais and FC Nantes aka the Brittany derby.
4. This is the place to see who will be the next talents that could lead Didier Deschamps, the coach of the French national team, to a third FIFA World Cup Win after 1998 and 2018. As Olivier Giroud, Karim Benzema, Hugo Lloris and many others are retiring from soccer, a new generation is expected to take over the French national team.
The French style of football, also known as "French Flair," is characterized by a focus on technique, creativity and individual skill. French footballers are known for their graceful playing style on the field and ability to produce moments of magic. This style can be seen in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, where teams often prioritize passing and movement off the ball. Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman, Dayot Upamecano, Axel Disasi , Adrien Rabiot and Antoine Griezmann are prime examples of this French flair style of football in modern times. Additionally, past French football legends of Les Bleus like Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini were known for their elegant style of play. Zidane, particularly, was famous for his ability to control the midfield and produce game-changing moments. In the larger context, French football has been recognized for having an emphasis on a strong defensive foundation, which gives the team a solid base to work from in developing their attacking play. This can be seen in the performance of Les Bleus coached by Didier Deschamps, which won the 2018 World Cup and went all the way to the final in 2022 with a mix of skillful play coupled with a strong defense.
