Inside a movie theater…

Things are getting better now; we are more relaxed in our way to approach our confinement. In California, now that we can go walk at the beach, riding our trails, and pick-up our Coldstone Milkshake from the curb, we do feel better. Not that I’m walking this much on beaches or riding this much trails (wish I could say the same about the Coldstone milkshakes but they’re so good), but it’s the beginning of the end of this crisis and that’s already something. Of course, we have to be careful, but it’s already something…

But the real end of all this, the sign that everything will finally be over, that we’re back to normal, will be when we’ll buy our first movie ticket of the summer, when we’ll take our seat in the giant, over-AC’d theater (even if they’re only one seat out of two or every other row open, I don’t care, I’ll be there), when the lights fade down in the theater and up on the screen. This will be, for me, the real restart of our world…

And it may have a French accent. I just got this morning a press release to let us know that one of the first movies of the new age will be a French one (well, kind of a French one since it’s directed by a Japanese director, but with 2 of the biggest French stars and it’s mostly spoken in French).

The Truth, La Vérité, the new movie by Kore-Eda Hirokazu (Palme D’Or in Cannes a couple of years ago for Shoplifters) with Juliette Binoche and Catherine Deneuve in the leading roles will be released in theaters in the USA on July 3^rd. You may be restarting your movie life with a French movie. Wouldn’t that be something?

It kind of make sense in a way. After all, the first movie screening ever was in France, December 28^th 1895 in the Grand Café near the Opera place in Paris. The Lumiere brothers showed a few of their famous film to an ecstatic audience…

It would be logical that the restart of cinema, the relaunch of our world if you want, would be announced in French on movie screens all across America.
